In what may be considered a bad news for automobile makers, the Supreme Court has extended the ban on the registration of diesel cars over 2000cc in Delhi.
The ban was first introduced in December 2015 in lieu of the rising levels of pollution and toxicity in the state capital. The ban which supposed to end on March 31, was extended to April 30 and has been extended further again. The next hearing is on May 9, 2016.
The Supreme Court has also banned all petrol and diesel taxis in the region. All taxi's were given a chance to convert to CNG by March 31 deadline, which was later extended to April 30.
What's ironical is that Supreme Court allowed Delhi Police to purchase 197 diesel cars, and the Jal Board to purchase 250 diesel vehicles to replace their existing ones.
