Now the Tesla Model 3 car owners won't be able to enjoy the perks of charging their cars for free at the company’s Supercharger stations. This announcement was made by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors at the annual shareholder meeting of 2016. Since the volume of the cars is likely to rise so, subsidized charging wouldn't be possible.

Elon Musk said, “Superchargers are set up, at least today, for people who bought the car, as free long distance for life. Obviously that has, fundamentally, a cost,”. “The obvious thing to do is to decouple that from the cost of the Model 3. So it will still be very cheap and far cheaper than gasoline to drive long distance with the Model 3, but it will not be free long distance unless you purchase that package.”

Although the company has not announced the cost of the charging package for its Model 3 version but it is sure that the owners will have to purchase the package from now onwards.

Till date the Tesla Supercharger network has around 632 charging stations which provide 3,780 Superchargers globally. The base Model 3 has been designed to provide a minimum driving range of 215 miles when fully charged.
