Reports from autohome.com.cn disclosed that the VW Teramont (name yet to be announced) has been spied inside-out completely undisguised form. The production version VW Teramont is based on the VW CrossBlue concept from the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
Reports also suggest that many exterior changes have been done based on the latest design language of the company. But the production version will continue to carry the boxy and robust character.
The facelifted VW Passat (NMS)-inspired grille suggest that the Teramont has been specifically designed for North America and China but that doesn't imply that the vehicle's sale will be restricted to this market only.
The VW Teramont is expected to be based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform similar to the second generation 2016 VW Tiguan. The spyshots reveal that the prototype has got a V6 engine, possibly a 3.6-liter FSI V6 gasoline engine that can produce 280 hp in the 2016 VW Passat (NMS).
Along with the FSI V6 engine, it is possible that there could be a 1.8- or 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine on offer. Transmission may be 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 6-speed DSG dual-clutch. The VW Teramont will be manufactured at the Chattanooga plant in USA by Volkswagen Group of America and the Chinese-spec VW Teramont will be manufactured locally by SAIC Volkswagen. The production is expected to begin by the end of 2016.
