CEO, Piaggio India, Stefano Pelle has confirmed the launch of next Vespa scooter GTS 300 at the launch of Aprilia SR 150 in Mumbai. Since the Italian maker is not expecting big numbers for its upcoming scooter so the Vespa GTS 300 will be sold in India as a completely built-up (CBU) unit. Moreover, without good numbers for sales numbers, there is no point in assembling or manufacturing the scooter in India.
Even before the official launch, the scooter needs to be homologated and due to lack of necessary equipment, ARAI is finding it tricky to homologate the Vespa GTS 300. But if things went as planned, the GTS 300 will make it to Indian roads by the end of 2016.
