Facing tough times in the national capital, car makers were feeling good as they expected the removal of ban on diesel vehicles displacing 2000 cc and above. The things went wrong for them again as Supreme Court has issued the ban to be continued till the next hearing on 9th April 2016.
Imposing this ban clearly means that the parameters for pollution control are wrong initially and this again rises a question that why are the vehicles being manufactured if their sale can be halted at any time? Why do companies have to follow many strict emission controls before production if at the end, they can be said to store everything they manufactured after every passed test?
The court says that they have not interfered in the life of a common man while for those with more money, big cars are also a common sight. A man earning more than normal never meant that he will be forced to choose the common path. The focus should be shifted from the ban of these new cars to the ban on those who are not letting their old cars lay off and provides some space for fresh air.
The ban, if applicable and considered right by majority, should be imposed nationwide as tomorrow, many new cities will face what Delhi sees everyday and preparing for the future is much better than applying bans on the last stage. The bigger agents like old buses and trucks pump out loads of smoke on nearly every highway in India and I personally don't believe that a car with 2,000 cc diesel engine and loads of technology would through the same amount of gases in it's lifetime.
Supreme court has issued a one month extension for diesel taxi's to switch to CNG while Mahindra, Mercedes Benz, Toyota and some others are expecting some relief on 9th April 2016.
