Telecom Regulatory Authority of India received several complaints regarding the denial of interconnection ports to the recently launched telecom service, Reliance Jio by other service providers namely Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. The total penalty recommended by the same was around INR 3050 Crore.
TRAI suggest a fine of INR 50 Crore per circle, which results in penalty over 21 circles for Airtel and Vodafone while 19 circles for Idea. The reason for the same is user inconvenience and unfair market play by the companies. They promised more number of interconnection points but failed to fulfill the same in last few months.
This way, the entry of the new service was hindered and the users of the same were provided with lesser opportunity by bringing call drops and high congestion in many areas. The fine is yet to be imposed by Department of Telecommunications, Govt of India.
