The flash sale on 30 and 31 March 2017 was not as lucky as others for Mahindra. The brand has a huge 18,000 unit pile of BS3 stock that includes motorcycles, scooters, cars and even commercial vehicles. They have provided around 15 percent discount on the actual prices but people were seen buying familiar brands on these days also.
Mahindra could convert some to BS4 under a small investment while others could be imported to some other country where the emission norms are lighter than Indian market. Not just that, some vehicles could go through neither of the process and are purely a loss to the company.
Mahindra cleared nearly half of the inventory worth INR 2000 Crore on these two days. Officials even commented that the ban from April 1, 2017 should have been on the manufacturing of the products as sales for the already manufactured products should have been allowed over the coming days by Supreme Court of India.
