Mercedes has finally launched its GLC SUV in India. The diesel GLC 220d 4Matic is priced at Rs 50.70 lakh and the GLC 300 4Matic petrol at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). The GLC is a bridge between the GLA and GLE versions and thus is an important addition to Mercedes’ India portfolio. This second generation mid-sized German SUV has come with a new nomenclature and would prove to be success as compared to the GLK.
The SUV shares a similar platform and design for its dashboard, steering wheel, infotainment monitoring controls along with the control knob for infotainment(placed between the front seats) as that of the C-class. But GLC is more spacious than C-class due to its longer wheelbase by 33mm. The amazing fact about GLC is its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol along with the 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol unit gives 245 hp and 370 Nm of torque whereas the diesel unit will deliver 170 hp and 400 Nm.
The SUV has the 4Matic all-wheel drive which will boost its off-roading abilities. Initially, GLC will be available as a CBU with a badge of Edition1 before its assembly hits the Indian markets. Some of the remarkable features of the new SUV are: Latest Comand infotainment system that comes along with a Garmin SD card-based navigation system, five drive modes, three-zone climate control, mood lighting system with three colours choices, active parking assistance and panoramic sunroof.
The Euro NCAP has given a five-star rating to the GLC for its enhanced safety equipments like the seven airbags, Mercedes’ Pre-Safe occupant protection system and the crosswind assist. The GLC is one of the 12 models to be launched by the Mercedes in India in 2016.
