Volkswagen has finally put an end to the production of its flagship sedan, the Phaeton. The reason behind this move was the low sales of Phaeton since most customers were attracted to its rival luxury sedans. It was introduced to take on the likes of Merc S-Class, 7-series, however it miserable failed in this endeavor, and has hence been killed by Volkswagen.
Dimensionally, the Phaeton was quite a long car measuring over 5175 mm in length. The powerplants of the car were not any less impressive either, with its rig displacing around 3600cc, and producing an impressive power output of 238 horses @ 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 500 NM at 1500 rpm. The car was available in various engine options starting from a V6 and going upto a 5.0-litre V10 with top variant being a 6.0-litre W12.
The company is an official press release said, “Today, production of the Phaeton luxury model ended after 14 years. Employees posed for a photo with the last vehicle manufactured – a black Phaeton “
If rumors are to believed, then a new car by VW to take Phaeton's spot as the flagship model is expected in 2018.
