According to reports by Car and Bike, Suzuki is planning to make India the production hub for its next gene Suzuki Jimny. It could be launched in Indonesia, Brazil, and Europe before the decade comes to an end.
Suzuki’s bold and sturdy Jimmy is expected to be based on the same platform as Maruti Baleno which will make it lightweight. It may continue to offer the 4×4 drivetrain, but it may have a 112 PS 1.0L Boosterjet engine from the export-spec Maruti Baleno.
Maruti may launch Jimny in a 4-door version in India despite the fact that a 3-door mini SUV has been the niche in the Indian market. The name Jimny would be new to regular car buyers so, Maruti may launch it as a successor to the iconic Gypsy just to draw attention. The Jimny is expected to give a tough competition to Mahindra TUV300.
The manufacturing for Jimny will begin in 2017 at the new plant of Maruti in Gujarat.
