Piaggio unveiled Aprilla SR 150 at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida in February this year. Now the company is planning to launch it next month at Rs. 65,000. With the launch of SR 150, Aprilia-branded scooters will make an entry to the Indian market. Also, this will entitle Piaggio as the second two-wheeler brand catering to the needs of domestic scooter market globally.
Although it is being speculated that current pricing set by Piaggo might be introductory but this is clear that the automaker has got serious intentions of competing with its rivals. The model will be manufactured at the same plant- Baramati of the company where the Vespa models are produced.
Piaggo has already captured the market with its premium Vespa scooter range which was launched in 2012. Piaggio Group Chairman and CEO, Roberto Colaninno said, “After the success of the Ape and the positioning of the Vespa in the premium segment of the Indian market, we are further strengthening our offering in the subcontinent with the entry of Aprilia’s SR 150 scooter. This vehicle is an excellent expression of the Noale manufacturer’s sport expertise and offers technology and style superior to those of its direct competitors in the segment,”.
The bookings for Aprilia SR 150 may soon begin across the country. As of now, Piaggio Vehicles, have got more than 100 dealerships and four MotoPlex stores across the country.
Let's see if Aprilla SR 150 is able to take over its rivals which include both Vespa and Honda Activa. Currently, the top model for Activa 125 Deluxe variant which has got a disc brake, combi-brake system and alloy wheels has been priced at Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
